The big ferry is slower and kinder on the stomach; the speedboat is quicker and wetter. With children or lots of bags, take the ferry. The transfer from your hotel to Rassada pier costs extra unless it is on the ticket. You do not swim at Maya Bay off this ferry – that follows different rules and a different tour.
Book the return separately. In monsoon, the afternoon sailing is cancelled more often than the morning one.
November to April brings more boats and a calmer sea. From May to October cancellations happen – then you get a new date or your money back, not a “we’ll just try”.
Rassada sits in Phuket Town, 45–60 minutes from the west-coast beaches. A dry bag protects your luggage and electronics. If you get seasick easily, take tablets beforehand. Life jackets are mandatory on speedboats.
