A sunset cruise lasts three to four hours: golden light, a drink on board and usually no snorkelling, because it gets dark. A half- or full-day catamaran with a stop off Coral or Racha comes closer to an island tour but still follows charter logic – you hire the boat or take a spot on an event deck.
A private yacht is priced per boat, not per seat. Party boats suit a celebrating crew more than families. Want Maya Bay? That’s in the island hub. Just crossing to Phi Phi with luggage? That’s under transfers.
Most trips leave from Chalong, a marina or Ao Po; the transfer is in the pack, or you take a Grab. The honest main season runs November to April. From May to October, swell and weather cause cancellations – then you get a new date or your money back, not a “we sail anyway”.
Take a jacket for the ride back, wear your life jacket and bring reef-safe sunscreen in case anyone does go in the water. Kids are welcome on sunset cruises, not on party decks.
